  3. Apr. 18--Vice president Al Gore will visit Fall River today, where he  will tour a recycling plant operated by Molten Metal Technology Inc.

  5. The Waltham-based company has grown from 12 to 200 employees in the past  four years after developing technology that uses molten metals to transform  almost any kind of waste - even low-level nuclear waste - into usable metal,  ceramic and gas byproducts.

  7. The pilot plant has been operating in Fall River since September, and  Molten Metal is building three other commercial plants in Tennessee and  Texas.

  9. "We're not just taking wastes and trying to destroy them. We're taking  them with a goal of making an end product out of them," said William M.  Haney, Molten Metal's president and chief executive.

That message dovetails nicely with the vice president's. He plans to  unveil a "National Environmental Technoloederal Laboratories division. This  settlement was booked as of Dec. 31, 1994, causing an additional $0.02 per  share loss to the company's year end statement over the prior reported loss  of $0.06 per share. After giving effect to the transaction, the company's net  loss for the fiscal year ended 1994 was $550,697. Mace Security of  Bennington, Vt., is a producer of nonlethal aerosol defense sprays for the  consumer and law enforcement markets and a marketer of consumer safety and  security products.

XIRCOM INC. of Thousand Oaks, Calif., has agreed to buy Salem, N.H.-based  Primary Rate Inc., for $48 million in cash and stock. PRI, which employs 75  persons and makes software for sending and receiving digital data via  computer, will become a division of Xircom and remain in Salem, according to  president Mark Galvin. The deal, split evenly between cash and stock,  represents 10 times PRI's trailing annual revenue, which Galvin called  "outrageous." He said PRI's investors, which include several venture capital  companies, decided to jump at the offer after turning away three other  suitors. Xircom, which is publicly owned, is a leading provider of networking  technology to mobile computer users.
